Strategic Leadership & Management
- Contribute to the strategic direction of the secondary school, ensuring high standards in behavior, pastoral care, and student welfare.
- Develop and implement policies related to pastoral care, behavior management, attendance, safeguarding, and student well-being.
- Work closely with the Senior Leadership Team (SLT) to support the school’s improvement plan and key priorities.
- Oversee the pastoral team, including Heads of Year, form tutors, and student support staff.
Pastoral Care & Student Welfare
- Lead on all aspects of student well-being, including mental health support and behavior for learning.
- Ensure a proactive safeguarding culture, working closely with the Designated Safeguarding Lead (DSL) and external agencies.
- Develop intervention strategies for students requiring additional pastoral support.
- Oversee attendance and punctuality, implementing strategies to reduce persistent absence.
- Promote an inclusive environment that supports the needs of all students, including EAL and SEND learners.
Teaching, Learning & Data Analysis
- Analyze teaching and learning data to identify trends in student progress, behavior, and attendance.
- Work with Heads of Year and subject leaders to track student achievement and pastoral concerns.
- Use data to inform pastoral interventions, ensuring students receive targeted support.
- Monitor the impact of pastoral initiatives on student outcomes and adjust strategies accordingly.
- Support teachers in using student performance data effectively to drive improvements in both behavior and academic achievement.
- Utilize Google Classroom and other digital learning platforms to monitor student engagement, provide support, and enhance communication between students, teachers, and parents.
Behavior & Conduct
- Promote a positive school ethos through high expectations for student behavior and discipline.
- Lead the implementation of effective strategies to manage and reduce behavioral incidents and exclusions.
- Support staff in managing student behavior, providing training and guidance as needed.
- Foster a restorative approach to conflict resolution and student relationships.
Safeguarding & Child Protection
- Act as a Deputy Designated Safeguarding Lead (DDSL), ensuring safeguarding policies and procedures are consistently followed.
- Respond to safeguarding concerns, liaising with relevant authorities and maintaining accurate records.
- Lead training for staff on safeguarding, child protection, and pastoral care.
Parental & Community Engagement
- Arrange and attend meetings with parents when required, ensuring effective communication regarding student well-being, behavior, and progress.
- Build strong relationships with parents, acting as a key point of contact for pastoral concerns.
- Work collaboratively with external agencies, such as social services, healthcare providers, and educational psychologists.
- Organize workshops and information sessions for parents on topics such as mental health, online safety, and behavior support.
Organizing School Trips & Educational Visits
- Oversee the planning and organization of school trips, ensuring they align with the curriculum and provide enriching experiences for students.
- Ensure all trips comply with health and safety regulations, risk assessments, and safeguarding procedures.
- Liaise with trip leaders, staff, parents, and external providers to ensure the smooth running of educational visits.
- Monitor the impact of trips and enrichment activities on student engagement and learning.
Cover & Staff Deployment
- Oversee daily cover arrangements, ensuring minimal disruption to learning.
- Manage the allocation of cover supervisors and supply teachers, ensuring high standards of teaching and learning.
- Develop efficient systems for staff absence reporting and cover scheduling.
- Provide guidance and training to cover staff to maintain consistency in behavior management and student engagement.
Staff Leadership & Development
- Line manage and support Heads of Year and pastoral staff, ensuring they receive appropriate training and development.
- Lead professional development initiatives focused on pastoral care, safeguarding, and behavior management.
- Support the well-being and workload management of staff under pastoral leadership.
General Responsibilities
- Uphold and promote the school’s values, vision, and policies.
- Be a visible and approachable leader, fostering positive relationships with students, staff, and parents.
- Take on additional leadership responsibilities as required by the Head of Secondary.
