Job Title: Director of Behavioral Health Services
Reports to: Director of Teaching and Learning
Teams: Teaching and Learning Office, EC-12 Counseling Teams, Child Safeguarding Task Force, Wellness Team
Contract: Initial 2 year Admin III contract, annual renewal subsequently

Description: The Director of Behavioral Health Services works in partnership with the Head of School, Director of Teaching and Learning, and divisional leadership to develop, coordinate, and support mental and behavioral health services across the school. The Director provides oversight for mental and behavioral health programs and, in accordance with the Strategic Plan and school goals, provides recommendations for schoolwide improvement.

Qualifications
1. Required qualifications
● General registration with a recognized State/National Board of Psychology
2. Preferred qualifications
● Master’s or doctorate degree in Psychology or Behavioral Sciences or related field
● Government issued teaching certification in education

Experience
1. Required experience
● 3+ years successful experience in the role of a Psychologist in school setting
2. Preferred experience
● 2+ years working in international education
● 3+ years working as a Psychologist in school settings
● Proven experience with Asian cultures

Responsibilities:
1. Overall
a. Collaborate with the senior leadership and divisional principals to review and establish policies and procedures to support students’ mental and behavioral
health, academic learning outcomes, and child safeguarding.
b. Coordinate Counseling services across the school.
c. Collaborate in the development of a Personal Development Program for the school.
d. Collaborate with members of the Teaching and Learning Office on curriculum, assessment, instruction, and data goals and strategic plans in support for student learning.
e. Cultivate relationships with and maintain an updated database of external mental and behavioral service providers and partners within Ho Chi Minh City who can be resources for the SSIS community.
f. Provide leadership across the school and community related to student mental and behavioral health services.
g. Provide appropriate Tier 3 support for student health cases.

2. Leadership
a. Coordinate EC-12 counselors to deliver a mental and behavioral program of support for students; supervision and evaluation of counselors is done by divisional principals.
b. Serve as the Designated Safeguarding Lead for the whole school.
c. Provide leadership and coordinator training (or provide directly) for faculty on supporting mental and behavioral health needs for all students, including the
Multi Tiered System of Support Model.
d. Coordinate and provide orientation for new faculty to counseling and mental and behavioral health services processes and procedures.
e. Transition new counseling team members by sharing processes, procedures and responsibilities within the EC12 Counseling Department.
f. Recommend budget items in coordination with the Director of Teaching and Learning and, where necessary, present the case for funding increases or
adjustments.
g. Prepare and deliver regular reports to senior leadership of necessary data and outlining progress toward meeting annual goals and objectives.
h. Participate in the recruitment of School Counseling team members.

3. Mental and Behavioral Health of Students:
a. Support student and faculty as a Multi Tiered System of Support Tier 3, direct counseling, behavioral coaching, and indirect interventions through and provide
consultation for students who experience mental health problems that impair learning and/or socialization beyond the scope of the school’s counseling and student development services; develop clear procedures and processes for timeline and referrals.
b. Develop and maintain a continuum of developmentally appropriate counseling and mental health services.
c. Coordinate systems of recording, storing, and accessing confidential information pertaining to students.
d. Coordinate and deliver Parent Education sessions on mental and behavioral health and child safeguarding topics.
e. Manage the administration, reporting, and interpretation of behavioral and mental health screeners for counselors and teams for areas of concern as
designated by the Academic Leadership Team.
f. Oversee the identification, progress monitoring, and follow up for students at risk of mental and behavioral health or child protection concerns.

4. Child Safeguarding
a. Participate in school crisis teams and use data-based decision making methods, problem-solving strategies, consultation, collaboration, and direct services in the context of crisis prevention, preparation, response, and recovery.
b. Engage in the implementation and evaluation of programs that promote safe and violence-free schools and communities
c. Coordinate the Child Safeguarding Team, including counselors and other divisional representatives.
d. Update as needed Administrative Regulations for Child Safeguarding.
e. Manage and maintain a confidential child protection recording system.
f. Coordinate and provide as appropriate training on policies and procedures regarding Child Safeguarding.

5. Supporting Academic Program
a. Provide and direct all psychological testing and evaluation as when determined as required by the school, initial and renewal evaluations, and to guide diagnostic or student placement decision-making.
b. Collaborate with the Director of Student Development using assessment data to recommend evidence-based instructional strategies intended to improve
student performance.
c. Collaborate with designated wellness and personal development leaders to support the development and delivery of a Personal Development Program
(Wellness) at SSIS, inclusive of advisory, health, and other components as developed.
d. Consult with the Director of Teaching and Learning and Director of Student Development with review of data to identify students in need of additional
instructional or behavioral support services, as well as progress monitoring systems to ensure successful learning and school adjustment.
e. Recommend current, empirically-based research on learning and cognition to the development of effective instructional strategies to promote student
learning at the individual, group, and systems level as part of a Multi Tiered System of Support.

6. Professional Development
a. Develop and coordinate appropriate professional development sessions in the areas of counseling and behavioral health services for faculty and staff to build
capacity in teachers to meet the needs of all students and in collaboration with administrators and teachers.
b. In coordination with the Communications Department, facilitate sessions related to mental health and child safeguarding for the parent community.
c. Provide leadership and counseling teams with recent research and developments in evidence-based practices in child development, counseling, mental health, and child safeguarding.
d. Provide leadership in professional development for faculty in the areas of behavioral and mental health.

● Represent the school by engaging in the larger professional community through meetings, conferences, presentations, publications, etc.
● Participate in responsibilities beyond the scope of the position
