IBDP English Language and Literature Teacher
Job Description:

Scope of Responsibility:
The IBDP English Language and Literature Teacher is responsible for delivering the IBDP English Language and Literature course, fostering critical thinking, analytical skills, and a deep appreciation for language and literature. The teacher will guide students through literary analysis, textual exploration, and creative expression while aligning with IB curriculum standards. A commitment to inquiry-based learning, student engagement, and developing students’ communication skills is essential.

Major Duties and Responsibilities:
Instructional Delivery:

Teach IBDP Language and Literature courses aligned with the IB framework, focusing on literary and non-literary texts.
Facilitate critical discussions on global issues, cultural contexts, and diverse literary forms, genres, and media.
Implement inquiry-based, student-centered learning experiences encouraging deep analysis and personal connection to texts.
Guide students in preparing for internal and external assessments, including Paper 1, Paper 2, Individual Oral (IO), and the Higher Level (HL) Essay.

Curriculum Development:
Plan, develop, and refine lesson plans, assignments, and assessments aligned with IB standards and the Approaches to Teaching and Learning (ATL) framework.
Collaborate with colleagues to ensure a cohesive and interdisciplinary approach to teaching Language and Literature within the IBDP curriculum.

Assessment and Feedback:
Provide timely, constructive, and actionable feedback on student work, emphasizing growth and skill development.
Maintain accurate records of student progress, achievements, and areas for development.
Prepare students for IB assessments, ensuring understanding of IB assessment criteria and standards.

Professional Development:
Engage in continuous professional development, staying current with IB curriculum changes and innovative teaching practices.
Participate in IB subject group training, collaborative planning sessions, and school-led professional development initiatives.

Student Support and Mentorship:
Support students in their academic, emotional, and social development, fostering a positive and respectful classroom environment.
Act as a student mentor, helping them develop their Extended Essay (EE) and engaging in the pastoral care system as necessary.
Offer one-on-one or group support sessions for students requiring additional assistance in achieving their academic goals.

Collaboration and Community Engagement:
Collaborate with the IBDP coordinator, faculty members, and other departments to promote interdisciplinary learning.
Communicate regularly with parents and guardians about student progress and areas for development.
Participate in extracurricular activities, such as literary clubs or writing workshops, to further engage students with language and literature.

Qualifications Required:
Bachelor’s degree in English, Literature, or a related field (master’s degree preferred).
Teaching certification and qualification to teach Language and Literature at the secondary level.
Experience teaching in the IB Diploma Program or familiarity with IB philosophy, curriculum, and assessment standards.
Strong command of both literary and non-literary forms of communication.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to motivate and inspire students.
Ability to differentiate instruction to meet the needs of a diverse range of learners, including English language learners (ELL).

Preferred Qualifications:
IB Language A: Language and Literature Category 1 or 2 training.
Experience teaching in an international or diverse cultural setting.
Familiarity with digital learning tools and strategies to enhance student engagement and learning outcomes.
