POSITION PURPOSE

The Head of the English Department will take academic leadership of all English language provision across all modes of delivery and lead the development and operation of support for University students learning a second language.
The Head of English will play an important role in the Academic Leadership Team, working to support English in all areas of the University.


AREAS OF RESPONSIBILITY

Lead the teaching and learning of:
IELTS for University Programme
English for Academic Purposes (EAP) Programme
English in High-Schools Programme
Student Academic Support (English)
English Modules on degree, pathway and corporate programmes
Management of Teaching and support teams
Business development and growth of the Department
Oversight of Department budget allocation
Creation and revision of materials and curricula in conjunction with teachers
Interviewing prospective Department staff
Development of English testing provision
Allocation of resources


POSITION REQUIREMENTS

COMPETENCIES (knowledge, skills, and abilities)

Essential

Master’s level qualification (In relevant discipline)
Professional qualification in English language teaching
Strong management and leadership skills
Evidence of leading a teaching Centre through growth and expansion
Relevant experience of English Department/Centre management
Excellent English communication skills

Desirable

PhD in English/Education
Experience in curriculum design
Strong growth and strategy experience in the English Language context
Extensive experience in teacher management and development from an education institution in Vietnam or overseas.
