Head of Music required for August 2025

The English College, Dubai, seeks a positive, reflective and inspiring Head of Music to work in the Secondary School for August 2025. The successful candidate will have a growth mindset and high expectations of all staff and students. They will be open and willing to learn; they will be expected to engage in professional learning with the mindset that everyone can always improve. We are seeking a professional who is passionate about encouraging students to grow and develop holistically - academically, emotionally, physically and socially.

The successful candidate will be enthusiastic, highly qualified and committed, with an excellent track record. The role of Head of Department - Music is a unique and incredibly rewarding leadership challenge and an exciting opportunity to be part of a dynamic and forward thinking school, rated Outstanding by BSO (2022) and Very Good by DSIB (2024). Candidates who have a thorough knowledge and understanding of the DSIB framework and experience of DSIB inspections would be at an advantage.

The successful candidate will demonstrate a creative approach to teaching and learning with the ability to inspire and motivate students with a diverse range of talents and abilities.

Demonstrate strong leadership capabilities, with the ability to lead, manage, and inspire a team of teachers and support staff.

Be committed to developing extracurricular activities and fostering a love of music across the school community.

Have experience in organizing and leading school music events, choirs, and competitions.

Possess excellent communication and interpersonal skills to engage effectively with students, colleagues, and parents.

Be a reflective practitioner, committed to continuous professional development and staying abreast of the latest advancements in Music pedagogy. Candidates must also have the necessary skills and vision to have the highest of expectations for all, using data to meet the needs of all learners, offering appropriate challenge and support where necessary. The candidate will be a Music specialist having the necessary experience, skills and knowledge to deliver Music through to A level.

A passion for promoting health, well-being, and lifelong participation in Music is essential, alongside a clear vision for how Music contributes to the overall personal and academic development of students.

Successful applicants will:
Be honest, transparent and have integrity.
Have a good honours degree.
Hold a QTS or PGCE teaching qualification, preferably from the UK.
Have a minimum of three years’ experience of teaching.
Be able to provide an ICPC and a UK enhanced DBS or equivalent police check.
Be professional in appearance and conduct
Be willing to contribute to the wider curriculum and support the vision of the school
