Mathematics Team Lead (High School)
Key Objective:
That the team under your leadership, provides a high-quality Christ-centred Christian education, and to ensure effective curriculum teaching and learning occurs for all students within a caring, high expectations environment.
Key Tasks and Outcomes:
This list is not exhaustive, staff carrying this leadership responsibility are expected to carry out all tasks that support best practice. Team leader ensures, through leadership and delegation the following:
1. Develop all areas of responsibility from a Christian worldview:
- Evidence of an articulated biblical basis or worldview in all initiatives.
2. Carry out delegated responsibilities:
- All duties carried out with faithfulness and integrity.
3. Build key relationships with staff, students, and parent community:
- All stakeholders feel heard.
- Each student’s data is analysed and a suitable learning programme developed in consultation with relevant staff and parents.
- Intervention will be proactive rather than reactive.
4. Provide support to teachers regarding curriculum and disciplinary matters:
- A positive environment, and achievements are regularly celebrated for staff and pupils.
-Development of teaching skills is ongoing, including appropriate use of difficult conversations.
- Provide instructional leadership within and across the Department.
- Teachers are supported in dealing with difficult or challenging situations with students or parents.
- Implement the Learning Culture Plan.
- Any contact/discussions are added to a detailed historical record as appropriate.
5. Respond to the School Leadership Team curriculum directions:
- Implementation of curriculum is well planned, worked into regular programmes and coordinated through relevant year levels.
6. Co-ordinate curriculum and assessment across the Department within delegated authority:
- Biblical principles are woven into the curriculum.
- Reports to parents are prepared by the due dates.
- Data is analysed to improve student outcomes.
- Students of concern are constantly monitored and appropriate plans are put in place. This may include Learning Support and ELL referrals.
7. Lead the Performance Appraisal for Department members
- Set TPGP goals with team members.
- Classroom observations.
- Mid-year and end of year appraisal reports.
8. Monitor Department Team wide achievement and contribute to curriculum development and data analysis across the school:
- Liaise with High School Principal to ensure curriculum mapping/tracking across Department.
- Ensure that PAIR (Planning Assessment Instruction Reflection) process is being followed.
- Attendance at meetings for curriculum development and reporting.
- Testing results are reviewed for students in relevant year levels.
9. Facilitate curriculum organisation in the Department Team:
- Regular team meetings are planned and held.
- Teachers receive regular feedback on teaching practice.
- Curriculum planning is co-ordinated and team-based, resulting in collaborative practice.
- Minutes are kept of all meetings.
- Effective communication is maintained within your team, with the wider school community (other teams and parents) and upwards to Senior Leaders.
- All team members have a voice.
- Recommendations for annual class placements are made within the set timeline.
10. Advocate appropriately for the Department Team:
- Represent the Department Team in school-wide matters.
- School-wide decisions respected by all team members.
11. Maintain personal well-being:
-On-going personal relationship with Christ is evident.
-Positive work-life satisfaction is planned.
12. Develop your own skills and practice as a leader:
-Takes the initiative in personal and professional leadership capacities.
- Appropriate PLD and mentoring is attended when opportunity is provided by the school.
-Personal reflections are made around the leadership aspect of your role.
Reports to:
Direct up: High School Assistant Principal, High School Principal, HOS
Horizontal reports: Department Team Leaders
Liaise with: High School Mathematics Teachers
Qualifications and Experience:
· Bachelor Degree in Education, or Bachelor Degree in relevant major subject(s), preferably in Mathematics, with a Postgraduate Diploma in Education or equivalent teaching credential with at least 10 weeks’ practicum required
· Candidates with team leading experience preferred
· Prior experience in teaching Mathematics and/or relevant major subject(s) in high schools preferred
· High level of English proficiency in spoken and written English required
· While not essential, please state any IB Diploma experience
· An understanding of the Christian faith, the School’s vision, mission and values
· Candidate embracing the values of Christian education preferred
Effective Date of Employment
The starting date for this appointment is mid-August 2025. Initial contract is normally 2 years in duration. Renewable 2-year contracts are offered subject to mutual agreement.
