Scope of Responsibility:
The MYP ELA Language and Acquisition Teacher is responsible for facilitating language acquisition and development in students through an engaging and culturally relevant curriculum. This role emphasizes building students’ language skills while fostering confidence, critical thinking, and a love for learning.

Major Duties and Responsibilities:
Curriculum Planning & Delivery:

Develop and implement a comprehensive ELA curriculum aligned with the MYP framework, focusing on language acquisition and cultural understanding.
Use various instructional strategies to meet the diverse needs of learners, ensuring inclusivity and engagement.
Integrate authentic resources and real-world contexts to enhance students’ language skills and cultural awareness.
Assessment & Feedback:
Design and administer assessments to evaluate student progress in language skills, including speaking, listening, reading, and writing.
Provide timely, constructive feedback that supports student growth and encourages a positive attitude toward language learning.
Utilize assessment data to tailor instructional approaches and differentiate learning experiences for all students.

Classroom Environment & Student Engagement:
Create a welcoming and inclusive classroom atmosphere promoting active student participation and collaboration.
Implement interactive and hands-on activities to engage students in language practice and encourage exploration of diverse perspectives.
Foster a culture of respect, empathy, and curiosity in discussions and group work.

Collaboration & Professional Development:
Create a welcoming and inclusive classroom atmosphere promoting active student participation and collaboration.
Implement interactive and hands-on activities to engage students in language practice and encourage exploration of diverse perspectives.
Foster a culture of respect, empathy, and curiosity in discussions and group work.

Student Support & Mentorship:
Provide individualized support to students, helping them overcome language barriers and achieve academic success.
Serve as a mentor, guiding students in their language acquisition journey and encouraging personal growth.
Build strong relationships with students and families to foster a supportive learning environment.

Qualifications & Skills:
Education: Bachelor’s degree in education, English, Linguistics, or a related field.
A master’s degree in education or a relevant discipline is preferred.
Certification: Valid teaching certification in English Language Acquisition or ESL/EFL.
Training in the IB MYP framework is a plus.
Experience: Minimum of 3 years of teaching experience in English Language Acquisition or related fields. Experience working with diverse student populations is highly desirable.

Skills:
Strong understanding of language acquisition theories and practices.
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to effectively engage students, parents, and colleagues.
Ability to differentiate instruction to meet the needs of all learners.
Proficiency in using technology and digital resources to enhance language instruction.
