Description
Position title: Secondary Mathematics Teacher

Reports to: Head of Secondary and High School

Purpose of the Role:
This role is designed to deliver high-quality Mathematics education to students in Years 7–12, fostering critical thinking, problem-solving, and a love of learning. The teacher will play a vital role in supporting students to achieve their academic potential and preparing them for future success, whether in further education or the workplace.

Key Responsibilities

Teaching and Learning:
Plan, prepare, and deliver engaging and challenging Mathematics lessons that cater to a diverse range of learning abilities and year levels.
Use a variety of teaching methods, resources, and technologies to make complex mathematical concepts accessible and engaging.
Develop students’ mathematical reasoning, problem-solving, and analytical skills through practical applications and real-world contexts.
Differentiate instruction to meet the needs of all students, including those requiring additional support or extension.
Curriculum Development and Collaboration:
Contribute to the development and implementation of a cohesive Mathematics curriculum for Years 7–12, aligned with school and external examination standards.
Work collaboratively with colleagues to ensure curriculum progression and continuity across year levels.
Integrate cross-disciplinary approaches to Maths, where appropriate, to enhance student understanding and engagement.

Assessment and Feedback:
Assess student progress using a variety of formative and summative assessment methods.
Provide timely, accurate, and constructive feedback to students to guide their learning and improvement.
Use assessment data to inform lesson planning, identify learning gaps, and support differentiated instruction.
Prepare students for internal and external examinations, including strategies for success in standardized assessments.

Classroom Culture and Environment:
Create a positive, inclusive classroom environment where all students feel supported and encouraged to take risks in their learning.
Foster resilience, perseverance, and a growth mindset by celebrating student effort and achievement.
Establish clear expectations for behaviour and learning, promoting a respectful and productive classroom atmosphere.
Professional Development and School Community Involvement:
Engage in ongoing professional development to stay current with best practices in Mathematics education.
Actively participate in departmental meetings, school events, and parent-teacher conferences.
Contribute to the school community by supporting initiatives, events, and extracurricular activities, such as Maths clubs or competitions.

Community Engagement:
Build positive relationships with students, parents, and carers to support student learning and development.
Encourage student involvement in community projects or activities that apply Mathematics in real-world contexts.
Collaborate with colleagues in other schools, professional organizations, or educational bodies to share best practices and enhance professional growth.

Share insights, resources, and expertise with colleagues to foster a culture of continuous improvement in the department.

Other Responsibilities:
Support the school’s marketing efforts, such as participating in Open Days and promotional events.
Invigilate internal and external examinations as required.
Take an active role in extracurricular activities, such as mentoring students in Mathematics competitions or leading a STEM club.
Carry out additional duties assigned by the Head of Department or Senior Leadership Team.
