About the job
Primary objective:
Student assistants support the academic team in all areas of the curriculum in and outside of the classroom. They support students in the playground with their social interactions and playing games. Student assistants help students with their own personal care needs and develop strong relationships within the Misk community. They make the safeguarding and well-being of all students their number one priority and follow the school’s statutory policies.
Areas of responsibility:
Assist in supervision of educational activities, social development And playground supervision of students.
Support in the junior school by taking on practical roles of responsibility for administrative activities.
Support students in mainstream classes including all academic subjects and all aspects of pe including swimming and field sports.
Assist students to access the curriculum safely. Matters relating to health and safety ultimately remain the teachers’ responsibility.
Support students with emotional/behavioral problems and help develop their social skills/behaviors.
Support for individual students inside and outside the classroom, including supporting access to camps, educational visits and whole school activities, to enable students to fully participate in activities.
Assist students with personal care needs (e.g. Changing clothes & toilets).
Set a good example in terms of dress, punctuality and attendance.
Work collaboratively with teachers and team.
Attend team and staff meetings as requested.
Promote and safeguard the welfare of all students at school.
Build and maintain successful relationships with students, treat them consistently, with respect and consideration, and are concerned for their development as learners.
Ensure that all students are supervised and assisted in and outside the classroom.
Ability to work effectively with individual students and small groups under the direction and supervision of a qualified teacher.
Undertake additional duties as and when required by the line manager.
Safeguarding:
The post holder will be required to safeguard and promote the welfare of children and young people and follow the school’s safeguarding policies and the staff code of conduct. They will directly support the designated safeguarding lead as a priority to ensure the safety and wellbeing of all students at the school.
Qualifications:
Diploma degree (essential).
Experience:
+1 year experience in a similar role.
Demonstrated ability to work with young children and understand their needs.
Skills, Knowledge and Abilities:
Ability to build effective working relationships.
Ability to adapt and demonstrate flexibility.
Ability to set high expectations to inspire, motivate and challenge the students.
IT proficiency including all Microsoft and google office tools Microsoft office and google suite.
Able to work under pressure and prioritize effectively.
Experience in working with students who have a variety of learning, social and psychological needs.
