Role and Responsibilities
Curriculum coordination and instructional coaching support the community in delivering a coherent curriculum and connect to job-embedded approaches to professional development for teaching staff. The CC&C works closely with the Director of Learning to strengthen the curricular programs and practices. The CC & C will provide ongoing support for individuals and teams, which includes co-planning, co-teaching, modeling, observing, and providing feedback. The CC & C will lead curriculum review in assigned subject areas, study groups, and workshops to develop teacher capacity. The CC & C should have a strong background in pedagogy, know and use strategies for change leadership, be known to be effective teachers, and have great credibility with their peers. As a coach, they will work in a non-evaluative, non-judgmental manner to provide support to teachers who are attempting to try new approaches to teaching or differentiate instruction so that the needs of all scholars are met.
Job Description
Curriculum, Instruction & Assessment Leadership
● In collaboration with members from all divisions under the supervision of the Director of Learning, provide support for the collaborative development, implementation, and review of courses and curricular units using the Understanding by Design framework.
● Provide ongoing support for teachers in creating an accurate written curriculum through Atlas Rubicon.
● Promote and develop evidence-based instructional practices that reduce barriers to learning and support transfer.
● Assist teachers with planning, sequencing, and scaffolding of instruction in curriculum programs.
● Champion school-wide initiatives related to AISJ’s learning culture and strategic plan.
Implementation & Support of School Programs
● Work with the Director of Learning to ensure the Curriculum Review Cycle aligns and evaluates all subject areas on the appropriate cycle.
● Support the evaluation of programs and initiatives so that they are implemented with deeper fidelity.
● Evaluation of academic needs within all subject areas and collaboration with teachers and administrators to interpret, use assessment data to improve instruction, and problem solve.
● Work with the school’s leadership team and teacher leader council to determine AISJ’s strengths and needs for improvement in order to improve scholars’ content area achievement.
Coaching
● Lead coaching cycles using evidence-based models.
● Provision of support to classroom teachers through professional development, which includes modeled lessons, co-teaching, and team teaching in the areas of the ELA, Math, Science, and Social Studies instruction and assessment.
● Model and co-teach lessons using high-yield instructional strategies.
● Promote peer observation protocols for teachers to learn from and with one another.
● Implement and bolster school-adopted systems to help teachers track scholar learning, keep records, and analyze the data to design next-step lessons. Work closely with DOL and the Data and Assessment Analyst to ensure coherence with data systems.
● Facilitate regularly scheduled data dialogues related to internal and external assessments and strengthen data literacy as a means for making instructional decisions.
● Conduct regular meetings with classroom teachers to examine Scholar work and monitor progress in order to support teacher reflection and action.
● Support the development of classroom intervention strategies to assist teachers in individualizing instruction for students who need academic support.
Professional Learning
● Conduct workshops or facilitate professional learning communities with teachers, parents, and the community to reinforce the curricular programs and practices used at AISJ.
● Recommend professional learning topics that are responsive to community needs and in line with strategic areas.
● Develop and facilitate high-quality sessions for faculty (PL days, divisional meeting times, department meetings, etc.) on a variety of topics to support the school’s goals.
● Assist the DOL with the support of new teachers by facilitating sessions during orientation
● Assist new teachers with the organization and management of their curricular programs.
● Further develop skills and growth by participating in professional learning in the areas of pedagogy and coaching.
Other Responsibilities
● Support for resource management and purchasing processes.
● Perform duties as assigned by the school administration
